Willie's fast start to the season
Greenock's talented young opening bowler, Willie Rowan (pictured above) has enjoyed a spectacular start to his 2010 season.
In just three competitive games, Willie has taken 11 wickets, including two 5-wicket hauls, against Clydesdale and Ferguslie, representing the first time that he has achieved such a feat for the 1st XI since he joined the club last season from Prestwick.
Now he has taken this rich vein of form into representative cricket. Playing for the National Academy this week against Durham County Academy, he took five wickets in the first game on Tuesday and followed this up with 83 runs in the second game the next day. Such form underlines the fact that Willie has the ability to become an all-round talent in Scottish cricket.
With the national team in a restructuring mode after disappointing performances in the past 18 months, it is not unreasonable to suggest that a continuation of such form will lead to a full national cap this year to add to the honours that he has gained at Under-19 and A team level. This might be bad news in some ways for the Club as such an honour would reduce his availablity for the 1st eleven but on the other hand it is always rewarding to see young talent prospering.
