Glenpark XI win in cavalier fashion
Glenpark XI v Cavaliers
Glenpark continued their promotion drive on Saturday securing an easy win over a below strength Cavaliers.
Things started badly for the home team by forfeiting the toss due to their late arrival. Skipper Mark Robertson invited them to bat, knowing Glenpark needed the full 25 points to continue their challenge.
Opening bowlers Kieran Begley and Jeeta Singh started soundly and, following the first wicket to a sharp catch by Peter Robertson, Cavaliers never looked in the game. Mark and Greg McDougall replaced the openers and wickets fell steadily. Sam Sanghera came on for Greg and caused problems with his pace, cleaning up the tail to close the innings on a meagre 86. Glenpark remained sharp in the field to prevent any loose runs, knowing that scoring would not be easy on an artificial wicket with variable bounce and an Amazonian outfield, but will need to curtail the wides in more competitive games.
Dave Sharma and Kieran Begley started steadily in reply with an opening partnership of 32, but then both fell in quick succession. This brought together father and son team Peter and Chris Hempsey who put aside any family feuds to ensure victory. Needing a half-century partnership to take Glenpark home, Chris unfortunately got an edge with three runs needed.
It is still a hard ask for Glenpark to finish in the top two, but all they can do is keep on winning and hope other results go their way.
Cavaliers (2 pts) 86 (43 overs) Serby 32, MI Robertson 4 for 28, SS Sanghera 3 for 12
Glenpark XI (25 pts) 87 for 3 (23.3 overs)
Glenpark XI won by 7 wickets
Glenpark XI Man of the Match: Mark Robertson
Scooby Award: Mark Robertson–A double award winner for the skipper. There were numerous transgressions, perhaps most valid was needlessly throwing down the stumps from about one metre in frustration – knowing that it wasn’t easy setting the stumps up again in the artificial wicket.
