Glenpark XI not at races at Hamilton
Hamilton v Glenpark XI
Glenpark’s promotion aspirations were dealt another blow on Saturday with a heavy defeat against Hamilton.
Batting first it appeared that the visitors could not get to grips with the artificial pitch and lost regular wickets. First-time opener Jamie McDowell did his best to stick it out as he watched his batting partners depart, but was eventually fifth out with the score on 54. Embarrassment was only avoided by Glenpark’s most consistent batsman Jeeta B. Singh, as he marshalled the tail for the inning's highest partnerships – getting support from John McGlynn and Pranav Sharman. Again Jeeta perished agonisingly close to his half-century, but he managed to at least get Glenpark a batting point with the innings closing on 122.
For this total to be competitive it would require early wickets, but Jeeta and Sam Sanghera couldn’t make the breakthrough – though Sam was unlucky to have a sharp chance put down at first slip. Hamilton were scoring quickly, so skipper Mark Robertson tried early changes, bringing himself and Greg McDougall on – perhaps thinking the latter might be inspired bowling in the shadow of a mausoleum clearly dedicated to him! They each had success, but Hamilton continued to their target in less than twenty overs. The only bright spot for Glenpark was Krishna Nayak’s maiden wicket for the team.
The venue did add some amusing sights to the afternoon’s proceedings though – the game being stopped and players having to run off and move their cars before being cited by park security. Also the Glenpark players were having to swap shoes so that they could bowl on the surface without spikes!
Following the other heavy defeat against Motherwell recently, Glenpark will need to make sure they don’t undo all their good work from their first half of the season. Hope would be for more success the next two weekends at home, but the matches are against strong opposition in the top half of the table.

Glenpark XI Man of the Match: Jeeta Singh (Bradman does it again!)
Scooby Award: John McGlynn – for several infractions including leaving his keys at the petrol station and bowling in a cap that subsequently blew off as he delivered.
