Cup success for Glenpark XI

Glenpark XI v Torrance House

In a match reduced to 18 overs per innings, Glenpark progressed to the second round of the Glasgow Cup with little difficulty on Thursday evening.

Bowling first, Jonathan Hempsey and Sam Sanghera got the home team off to a good start, bowling tightly and aggressively on a helpful wicket. Sam ended up bowling his allotted five overs straight through, returning excellent figures of 2 for 6. The bowlers were backed up by keen fielding, with the initially questionable decision to have veterans Tony Judd and Peter Robertson patrolling a shortish leg-side boundary, being borne out by the pair swooping down on anything smacked in their direction. Torrance House rallied a bit in the final overs, finishing on a modest total of 83 for 4 – with Jeeta Singh and Mark Robertson claiming the other two wickets.

In response, openers Chris Hempsey and captain Mark Robertson started well, taking the score to 36 after 7 overs before Chris was dismissed for 23. The skipper continued hitting the ball well, but his dismissal for 38 sparked a bit of a wobble, with the score going from 68 for 1 to 71 for 4. The ship was steadied by the old guard pairing of Toby Thomson and Peter Robertson – the latter sealing the win with consecutive fours in the thirteenth over.

Glenpark will now face Scotindians away where I suspect the crowd will be a sorry comparison to the vociferous support given this evening – it was much appreciated by the team
