2011 Junior Awards Evening
Greenock Cricket Club held its end of season Juniors’ Award Evening at Glenpark recently to round off another successful season for the large number of young players who attended weekly training evenings and played in the various age group teams.
Speaking at the awards evening, Greenock CC President Peter Hempsey said that he had been very impressed by the enthusiasm and commitment of all the young players and very grateful for the support of parents and friends who had come along to the Club each week to encourage the girls and boys.
Throughout the summer months from May until the end of August, teams at Under-11, Under-13, Under-15 and Under-18 levels played matches on a weekly basis against sides from across the west of Scotland. These games gave the girls and boys the opportunity to take part in a competitive environment and a good number of the Greenock youngsters showed that they are developing into fine cricketers. Already, several of these juniors have played in senior 3rd XI matches in the WDCU Sunday League and Neil Flack has become a regular in the senior 2nd XI playing in the WDCU SNCL Reserve League.
Peter Hempsey also paid tribute to the age group team managers and coaches whose commitment enabled the junior section to flourish. Special thanks were given to Under-11 team managers Scott Forrest and Brian Roberts, Under-13 team managers Gordon MacQuat and Gavin Murray, Under-15 team manager Kevin Flack and coaches Kieran Begley, Colin McDougall, Greg McDougall, Jonathan Hempsey, Chris Hempsey and Tony Judd.
The winners of the annual age group awards were Under-11 Euan Stewart, Under-13 Harry Briggs and Under-15 Jamie Small.
