Glenpark XI too good for Meikleriggs as push for title continues

The Glenpark XI gained another important victory in their quest to gain top spot in the WDCU SNCL Reserve League when they defeated Renfrewshire rivals Meikleriggs XI at Glenpark on Saturday.
A brisk opening partnership of 52 runs from Phil McIntosh and Peter Hempsey gave the Glenpark side a fine start before McIntosh was caught at mid off for 22. Scott Friel then picked up a further two wickets for Meikleriggs , including Hempsey bowled for 33, as Glenpark were reeled back to 61 for 3 in the twelth over.
Glenpark captain Mark Robertson with 31 runs helped get the local side’s innings back on track with a purposeful innings sprinkled with a number of excellent boundaries. However too many unnecessary wickets were lost, including Robertson being run out, and the home side’s innings ended prematurely in just the 34th over for 159 leaving 16 overs unused.
For Meikleriggs, Friel took 3 wickets for 40 runs and Ahmed 3 for 11.
Glenpark bowlers were always on top when Meikleriggs got their innings under way with only Mappleback (19) and Patterson (10) getting into double figures.
Phil McIntosh ripped through the top order of the Paisley side’s batting line up taking 4 for 18 from his ten overs while Mark Robertson also picked up four wickets for 19 runs from just 6.3 overs. John MacNab with 1 for 38 from ten overs was the other wicket-taker and there was also a run out.
The win maintains the Glenpark XI in the top four of the WDCU SNCL Reserve League with only a few percentage points separating the top teams.
