Rain washes out Glenpark XI's hopes
Meikleriggs XI v Glenpark XI
For the third week running Glenpark faced tough opposition from the first division of last season’s Western Union when they travelled to the “auld enemy” in Paisley.
Skipper Mark Robertson elected to field on a wicket that looked as if it might give the bowlers some assistance due to recent rain. So it proved as opener Dave Sharma found the outside edge on several occasions, but with the ball going to hand only once. At the other end Jeeta Singh bowled very tightly and also had early success. The Ferguslie third wicket pair then dug in and saw off the openers who were replaced by Greg McDougall and Keiran Begley. Greg found a good rhythm, but Keiran stuggled to be consistent and Mark quickly brought himself on. Greg and Mark applied the brakes, building pressure on the batsmen for Mark to finally make the breakthrough – removing both top scorers.
After Greg’s excellent spell, prodigal son William Marshall rolled the clock back, bowling with good pace. It was at this time that the rain started. Openers Jeeta and Dave returned to bowl out the innings and both had further success, but the rain got heavier and the match was halted in the 46th over.
It was a shame as, after two one-sided matches, it was shaping up to be a competitive contest. Next weekend it’s back to Glenpark to face Whitehaugh
Meikleriggs XI 191 for 6 (45.2 overs) Rutnagur 54, McNeill 40, Preston-Jones 30
Match Abandoned
Glenpark XI Man of the Match: Although Jeeta, Dave and Mark took the wickets, Greg McDougall was the pick of the bowlers.
Scooby Award: Kieran Begley - travelling to the ground Kieran missed the turn off and then had the temerity to blame his skipper passenger for talking to him! Way to multitask Kieran!
