Hillend XI finish the season on a high note
Hillend XI v Helensburgh
Batting first, Hillend amassed 165 all out. After a poor start which saw them at 33 for 3, skipper Kevin Flack joined under-13 player, Harry Briggs, at the crease in the 10th over. They put on 30 for the 4th wicket with Harry scoring a fine 16, then 2 wickets fell quickly leaving Hillend at 77 for 6. Chris Hempsey joined skipper Flack and together they put on a 48-run partnership with Chris finally falling for 23, trying to hit the ball to Gourock. The skipper was eventually out for 62 charging the opening bowler and missing a straight one. Sammy Sanghera then hit some big blows, including a ground-clearing 6, as the innings closed on 165.
With Hillend bowling, Peter Robertson showed his class, wobbling the ball around to finish with 1 for 14 off 8 overs, and all the Juniors got to bowl and took wickets with Kieron Wylie having a hat-trick ball well defended.
May I say a big thank you to Helensburgh for playing the game in a great spirirt and a big well done to their two under-11 players who more than held their own.
Finally a big thanks from me to Peter Robertson, Greg McDougall, Jonathan and Chris Hempsey, Sammy Sanghera, Scott Forrest and all other adults that have helped me during the sumer to bring the Juniors into the longer form of the game ... AND WIN THE LEAGUE!!!!!!!!!!
