Under-strength Glenpark XI no match for Partick XI

Glenpark XI v Partick XI
CSL Western Premier Reserve League
Saturday 9th June 2012

The Glenpark XI took to the very well presented pitch at Glenpark on Saturday afternoon for their WDCU Premier West Reserve match against West of Scotland 2nd XI (Partick) with just four players from the team which defeated Langloan a week previously. A combination of call ups to the 1st XI due to injury, and also availability issues, meant the side was significantly under strength and it showed as West won with ease.

Batting first Greenock did have 22 runs on the board before the first wicket fell but thereafter it really was a procession as the largely very young and inexperienced side were no match for the strong eleven down from Glasgow. Only seasoned campaigner Mark Robertson managed to show any ability to stay at the crease and score some runs but when he was out for 18, the West bowlers had it all their own way and in just 32.1 overs Greenock’s very pedestrian innings came to an end on 56.

For West, the veteran John Cameron returned excellent figures of 5 wickets for just 9 runs as did Stewart Leggat with 3 wickets for 1 run. Stewart Brown and Max Ralston got one wicket apiece.

In reply to the very low total offered by Greenock, West made short work of the task and in just eleven overs had scored the runs required to win the match without the loss of a wicket. Openers Jonny Graham with 26 not out and Nigel Clarke with 31 not out were more than capable of dealing with the bowling attack which Greenock had available and cruised home to an easy win.

Glenpark XI (0 pts) 56 (32.1 overs) JA Cameron 5 for 9, S Leggat 3 for 1

Partick XI (12 pts) 58 for 0 (11 overs) N Clarke 31*

Partick XI won by 10 wickets
