Western Union 40 Cup
Sunday 18th June 2017
Ferguslie | 62 | KG Scrimegour 4 for 15 |
Greenock 1st XI | 63 for 3 | KG Scrimegour 33 |
What a difference a day makes. Having lost in a high scoring match against Ferguslie at Meikleriggs on Saturday in a league match, Greenock returned to the same ground on Sunday afternoon to play their Renfrewshire rivals in the Western Union 40 Cup competition and this time turned the tables with a superb 7 wicket win. It was the two teams' fourth meeting in the space of just one week and all at Meikleriggs.
The difference between Saturday and Sunday was clear to see. On Saturday, Ferguslie amassed 275 runs with Michael English scoring 119 runs and Riyaad Henry 72 runs. In Sunday's cup tie, English was removed for just 14 runs and Henry for just 3 and Ferguslie were bowled out for a paltry 62 runs. Undoubtedly one of the Paisley side's lowest scores in recent years in any competition.
Kyle Scrimegour with 4 wickets for 15 runs from 8 overs, Julian Hulbert 2 for 17 from 5 overs and Jonathan Hempsey 2 for 6 from 7.2 overs were the main wicket-takers as Ferguslie quite uncharacteristically fell apart. Scrimegour rounded off a good weekend of personal performances with 33 runs to ease Greenock to a quite comprehensive win and a long awaited victory over their county rivals.
This win means Greenock now have a home tie in the Quarter Final round against Poloc on a date yet to be confirmed.
