Gags on the Green

The continued success of the GIG ON THE GREEN music festival has inspired the Club to venture out into the world of comedy, staging their inaugural Gags On The Green stand-up comedy night on Friday 2nd September.

The evening will feature some of the finest comedians currently on stage performing around the Scottish comedy circuit. Greenocks very own comic genius, 'Parrot' O'Hara, will also act as Master of Ceremonies for the event, uniquely being held within the tented Marquee which will stage the Gig on the Green music festival a couple of days later.

Parrot's routine is the very stuff you'd expect of a stereotypical stand-up comic, revolving around the tribulations of over indulgence and behaving badly. Parrot is a stand-up with great experience - nearly three decades - so there's little to fault in delivery, timing or in his ability to hold the stage and his audience's attention.

The comedy night will continue through the off-beat humour of two of Scotland's renowned comic stars, Mark Nelson and John Ross.

Since winning the inaugural Scottish Comedian of the Year Award in 2006, barely a year after his first-ever open-spot, Mark Nelson's mix of dark humour, cutting observations and superb one-liners has seen him firmly established as one of the UK's biggest-hitting comedy powerhouses.

'John Ross - west end Ned', the comedian's one-man show, was an instant hit and sold out at the 2007 Glasgow International Comedy festival. He lit up the Magners' comedy festival and he has regularly appeared in the best of Scottish comedy shows at The Stand comedy club in Edinburgh. He has also performed comedy sets at the Fringe Festival for the last three years.

Comedy fans attending Gags On The Green will also be entertained by deadpan comic Michael Redmond who started his career writing comedy for Irish radio and television. After moving to London in 1987, he quickly established himself on the comedy circuit, headlining at clubs throughout the UK. Known for playing Father Stone in the Father Ted tv series, he has a number of comedy acting credits to his name. He now lives in the Scottish capital and hosts a regular Sunday-night gig at The Stand comedy club there.

The Gags On The Green night will take place on Friday 2nd September with doors opening at 7.30pm. Tickets costing £8 can be purchased in advance or at the door on the evening. To reserve tickets, contact Colin McDougall on 07768716468.
