Gig on the Green 2016

The annual Gig On The Green music festival is now less than a month away.

The festival, which has been running for more than fourteen years, will take place this year on Sunday 4 September.

Main music organiser for The Gig and well known local musician Kenny Wilson has now completed what is a very impressive line-up of bands and singers for the event which will run from 1pm until 7.30pm.

Returning by popular demand are bands such as The Urban Folkers, Sinsheimers, Flung Aboot, and of course, The Wherries.

The Sinsheimers make a welcome return. After a years absence from Gig on The Green, the boys will be taking to the stage to perform their new EP, Bandinage, as well as some old favourites. They provide tight harmonies, big melodies and a towering pop/rock sound that will leave the audience in no doubt that this is a band going places!

New to Gig on the Green is talented singer/songwriter Shelagh McKay Jones who has become a very popular recording and broadcasting artist. She shot to prominence after winning the prestigious 'Danny Kyle Award' at Celtic Connections in 2015 (for best new folk talent.)..... this was followed by her taking the top award at the Roots Folk Festival. Shelagh, with her magnificent voice, competent guitar playing and great self-penned songs, is in high demand on the national circuit and will be an act not to be missed at Gig On The Green.

Broomberry Drive have been performing 60's and 70's music in clubs and pubs since late 2013 and the interest in this music style seems to continue to grow in popularity amongst most age groups. The band capture the diversity of the eras with elegant acoustic songs by bands like the Hollies and Moody Blues through rockers like Deep Purple and Focus, while not forgetting the mainstays of 60's and 70's music, the Beatles, Rolling Stones, The Doors, Bowie, Manfred Mann and 10cc to name a few.

The Fogartys, Andrew and Jill, are the son and daughter of the late Brian Fogarty, a legendary folk singer with the Cumberland Three. Joining them on stage are some very special guests. The band are fresh from the summer festival circuit. The Fogartys use traditional instruments to play a mix of songs from the ancient to the modern. From The Police to Hendrix, jigs and reels to rock 'n' roll all musical bases are covered.
