Representative honours for Greenock youngsters

Despite the poor start to the season from a weather point of view, the Junior section at Greenock continues to thrive with a number of the boys gaining district and national representative honours.

Tom Forrest, Jamie Love and Jamie Nowell have all been selected to take part in the Under-14 Challenge Series, a new competition in the West which has been designed as the stepping stone up from club cricket for Under 13 and Under 14 age group cricketers. Three squads have been selected and they will play each other twice during the season. Tom Forrest and Jamie Love have been selected for the Foxes squad and Jamie Nowell for the Sharks. Unfortunately, the first fixture of the series between the Eagles and the Foxes fell victim to the May rains but hopefully the weather will improve for the remaining fixtures, the first of which is on Sunday 7th June between the Sharks and the Foxes, at a venue still to be confirmed.

The picture below shows club President, Peter Robertson presenting the three boys, from left to right, Tom, Jamie L and Jamie N, with club ties to wear when they travel to the fixtures.

Louis Ware and William Goan have been selected for the Western Warriers Under-15 team to play the Eastern Knights Under-15s at Newfield in Edinburgh on Sunday 24th May. This follows on from their selection for the game against Caledonian Highlanders at the beginning of May, another fixture which was washed out by the May rains. The Under-15 team plays a number of games throughout the season, affording Louis and William plenty of opportunities to demonstrate their abilites.

Lastly, Neil Flack, pictured below, captained the Scotland Under-19 team in 2 of the 3 fixtures that were played against Durham Academy at Uddingston from 12th to 14th May. In the first game, Neil was dismissed cheaply for 3 but in the final match, which Scotland won by 3 wickets to take the series 2-1, he top-scored with a fine 67. This should be the start of a very busy season for Neil with games for the Under-19s and the Western Warriers Under-18s on top of his club commitments.
