Glenpark XI too strong for Vale of Leven

Glenpark XI v Vale of Leven

Glenpark completed a successful weekend with an expected win against Vale of Leven in the Western Cup.

Batting first, Mark Robertson and Chris Hempsey celebrated their reunion as an opening partnership with a century stand. Peppering the boundary regularly they scored at a rapid rate, helped by some wayward bowling. Mark reached his half-century first, but perished soon after bringing Aidan Forrest to the crease. Chris then completed his fifty and carried his bat to add almost another half century with Aidan. The innings closed with an imposing score of 156 for the loss of just one wicket.

The visitors started steadily but were always behind the run rate. Opener Dalby held up his end, but wickets fell regularly at the other. Opener Jeeta Singh bowled economically, while John McNab at the other end claimed a scalp. Phil McIntosh, carrying an injured shoulder, then made up a spin twin pairing with Mark – the latter claiming another two victims to fine catches from Jamie McDowell and Sam Sanghera. Aidan then bowled out from the Bedford Street end, whilst Sam came on to replace Mark. Sam was also bowling injured as evidenced by him wearing a corset – over his shirt! However this did not appear to hamper his reputation for ripping out the tail end as he captured four wickets in his two overs – the last man in surviving his last three deliveries to prevent an all out. Oddly only the Fox Street bowlers had success.

Glenpark XI 156 for 1 (20 overs) CJK Hempsey 62*, MI Robertson 53

Vale of Leven 97 for 8 (20 overs) Dalby 65, SS Sanghera 4 for 3

Glenpark XI won by 59 runs

Glenpark XI Man of the MatchMark Robertson

Scooby Award: Jeeta Singh – another multiple nominee: leaving the match early the previous day, trying to bowl over his maximum 4 overs and most bizarrely, when holding the deciding vote for the award, failing to cast his vote for Mark!
