Glenpark XI notch up second league victory

Langloan XI v Glenpark XI
CSL Western Premier Reserve League
Saturday 2nd June 2012

The Glenpark XI notched up their second league victory out of three matches played so far in the CSL Western Premier Reserve League following a very comfortable win over Langloan (Drumpellier 2nd XI) at Coatbridge on Saturday afternoon.

Batting first, Glenpark featured a father and son opening partnership with Kevin and Neil Flack getting the innings under way. They gave the side an excellent start putting on 80 runs before Neil provided a return catch to Nathan Allison having scored 27 runs. Kevin departed shortly afterwards for 44 and when Peter Hempsey (16) became wicket number three, Glenpark were 127 for 3 after 31 overs.

Brian (Jesus) Roberts and Jack Bushfield added 54 runs for the fifth wicket of which Jack scored a career best 35 runs. Brian was eventually out for 30 leaving just young Kieran Wylie and not quite so young Scott Forrest remaining as the last wicket partnership. They had put on a further 14 runs to take the total to 219 when Kieran was judged run out off the very last ball of the innings. He had scored 11 runs.

Nathan Allison with 4 wickets for 40 runs was Langloan’s most successful bowler, with Humsa Sabri and Nicholas Pyne each picking up two wickets.

Three quick wickets after the tea interval put Glenpark well in control and although Nicky Pyne and Mahmood Aziz stuck together for a while, the necessary run rate was not being challenged. When Pyne was bowled by Sam Sanghera for 24, Nathan Allison joined Mahmood and another quite lengthy partnership developed, but once again the required run rate was not threatened.

The introduction of Niall Forrest to the Glenpark bowling attack paid immediate dividends with firstly Mahmood caught for 23 then Allison stumped by Neil Flack for 22. Veteran James Hamilton delayed the inevitable for Langloan for quite a number of overs, ending on 13 not out as the innings finally closed on 136 in the 43rd over when Fraser Hamilton gave a straightforward catch to Sam Sanghera from the bowling of Kieran Wylie.

Apart from Niall Forrest, who returned the excellent figures of 3 wickets for 13 runs from five overs, there were good bowling performances from Reiss Armstrong 3 wickets for 30 runs from ten overs, Sam Sanghera 2 for 22 from 9 overs, Kieran Wylie 2 for 34 from 9.5 overs and also Kevin Flack and Scott Forrest who bowled a total of 9 overs for 34 runs but without any wickets.

The Glenpark XI have now played four league matches and have won two and lost two. Next Saturday, West of Scotland 2nd XI (Partick) are visitors to Glenpark.
