Greenock's season ends on a wet note

Greenock's 2019 Premier Division programme of fixtures ended unsatisfactorily on Saturday afternoon when the league umpires ruled out any play at Glenpark as the ground was deemed unfit for play due to the effects of the incessant rainfall during the week.

The bowlers' run up and front foot landing area on the crease at the Bedford Street end of the ground were the main problem areas about which the umpires were concerned, and although the rest of the ground had recovered sufficiently from the week's rainfall, the game was unable to go ahead.

The cancellation was the fourth match to be lost to the effects of wet weather in the last five weeks of the season for Greenock, and will have the record books being searched to find out, if ever, such a dreadful run of cancelled matches has happened before.

Fortunately, the cancellation had no bearing on the league placings as Greenock were safe in eighth position and so will retain their place in the Premier Division for 2020.
