The 1st XI were thwarted in their attempt to defeat Renfrew when their match at King George V Park was abandoned after 17.1 overs.

Renfrew won the toss and elected to bowl first, a decision which quickly paid off when Shailesh Prabhu was caught behind off the last ball of the second over for just 2 runs. Connor Nowlan had made a slow start to his innings, facing a maiden over first up but with Aryan Sanghera accompanying him, he began to get the scoreboard moving.

They took the total to 32 before Sanghera fell caught and bowled by the Renfrew professional Rahman when trying to hit him down the ground. He had made 8 in his brief innings.

Angus Tolhurst joined his fellow Aussie at the crease and at this point Nowlan cut loose. He was particularly severe on Rahman, hitting him for a couple of sixes in one over, and raced to his half-century in just the tenth over of the game.

Tolhurst was a mere spectator, making just one run in a partnership of 44 before he appeared to play round a ball from Butt and was bowled. This dismissal did not put a stop to Nowlan's hitting and he continued to dominate the bowling. The total had reached 108 after 17.1 overs and the team were on course for a big total when the game had to be abandoned.

The early ending to the match was particularly unfortunate for Connor Nowlan who was left undefeated on 76, an innings which comprised 58 balls and included 7 fours and 5 sixes. Who knows what he might have scored had the innings gone its full length.
