2025 season starts this weekend

Opening the season on Saturday at the ground are visitors West of Scotland. The Glasgow club has been a regular provider of pre-season opposition in recent years. And this season, the two clubs will also lock horns in the WDCU Premiership Two League.

West were relegated from the top division, WDCU Premiership One, at the end of the 2024 season following a disappointing league campaign. Without doubt, the Hamilton Crescent side will be keen to be in the mix at the top of the table when the competitive league matches get started at the beginning of May.

A second warm-up match takes place at Glenpark on Sunday. This is an intra-club match between a Glenpark XI and a Hillend XI and will provide the opportunity for between 20 and 30 Greenock players to get some on-field match practice.

The Club will have a new look this season. Aryan Sanghera takes over as captain from Greg McDougall, who gave great commitment to the position for four seasons and Cammy Calder will be his vice-captain. The Glenpark XI will once again be led by Eddie Ahmad with Hamid Safi as his vice-captain. And the Hillend XI, the Club's 3rd XI, will be captained by PJ Bryceland with Rakesh Kumar as his vice-captain.

Everyone at the Club is looking forward to a busy season of cricket with not just 1st XI and Glenpark XI Saturday cricket. The Hillend XI will play in the WDCU Sunday League Division Two and also the Midweek League Division Three. Greenock teams will also compete in various midweek cup competitions and the 1st XI has been drawn at home against Dundee HSFP in the first round of the Cricket Scotland Challenge Cup to be played on Sunday 8th June.

Former 1st XI player David "Toby" Thomson has taken over as Club Coach for the season, having taken the reins at the Club's indoor training during the winter.

Two fine young Australian amateur players, Will Jenkins and Callum Henry, from the Brisbane area of Queensland, will be key players for the side. They arrive in Greenock next week and should be available for the final two pre-season matches against Hillhead and Helensburgh next weekend. Will is a pace bowler and middle-order batsman while Callum is a keeper and opening bat.

The 1st XI open their league season against Kilmarnock at Glenpark on Saturday 3rd May while the Glenpark XI's first game is away to Galloway on the same day.

With an abundance of cricket to be played this season, new players will be welcomed at Glenpark. Senior training evenings are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6.15pm onwards.

Junior cricket for players 8 years of age to 18 is also available and training for these age group players is on Wednesday evenings from 6pm starting on Wednesday 23rd April. All necessary equipment is supplied by the Club.

The Club is grateful for the continued sponsorship from Cleaning Supplies 4U.
