The Calders make history

History was made at Glenpark on the afternoon of Saturday 13th June when 14 year old Abigail Calder became the first ever female player to feature in a senior Greenock team. Abigail, who has already caught the notice of the some of the Scottish Ladies coaches, played in the WDCU CSL First Division Reserve League match against Marress, the 2nd XI of Irvine, and also in the team was her father, Alistair, who had last played for the club over twenty years ago.

In the game, which the Glenpark XI won by 152 runs, father Alistair scored 4 not out from the last 3 balls of the Glenpark innings, and then rolling back the years, bowled 2 overs off a 12 pace run for just 12 runs.

Abigail for her part also bowled 3 overs, conceding just 18 runs in a useful little spell.

And just to prove that you can't keep these Calders out of the picture, son Cameron fielded for the whole of the second innings as a substitute for Mark Farrell and did so extremely well.

So a day of records at Glenpark. The first ever female Greenock player, the first ever time when a father and daughter and son have been on the field at the same time and to cap it all, almost certainly the highest ever score by a Greenock 2nd XI team of 349 for 6 (we don't have the records to prove that conclusively).
