1st XI without a game this weekend

The 1st XI have a free Saturday this week with their fixture against Glasgow Accies at New Anniesland moved to Sunday 18th May as the Glasgow ground is unavailable due to it hosting on Saturday a prestigious rugby fixture against the Barbarians to celebrate the centenary of 4 Accies players featuring in the Grand Slam winning Scotland team of 1925.

This means that full attention this weekend will fall on the Glenpark XI when they welcome Milngavie 2nd XI to Glenpark on Saturday. The team will be looking to build upon last Saturday's close-run victory over Galloway and secure their second win of the season. No team selection is currently available but should rely on the bulk of those that played last week. The match will start at the usual time of 12 noon.

Midweek action started this week for both of the senior teams. On Tuesday, the Glenpark XI travelled to Paisley to play Whitehaugh in the group section of the Western Cup. Unfortunately, the team's batting failed comprehensively and the side was bowled out for just 61 with Samim Haidary (19*) and Arun Nair (11) the only players to reach double figures. Nair captured an early wicket when Whitehaugh batted but that was the only success for the Glenpark attack and Whitehaugh ran out easy winners by 9 wickets.

On the following evening, the 1st XI made the same journey to take on Kelburne in the McCulloch Cup. This season, the group stage of this competition has been changed from home and away matches to sides playing each other just once. This means that it is essential that teams get off to a winning start if they wish to progress to the knock-out stage of the Cup and that was exactly what the 1st XI achieved. Kelburne batted first and were quickly reduced to 23 for 3, thanks to an excellent opening spell by Fahimgul Dinarkheil who took all three wickets. Kelburne did rally from this early setback but from 91 for 5 they subsided to 99 all out, with Muhibullah Ahmadzai and Nikhl Kadyan both grabbing two wickets to bring about this collapse.

The 1st XI's reply received an early knock when Chirag Pandher was trapped in front without scoring but Will Jenkins took control of the team's reply and helped by Shailesh Prabhu (18), Aryan Sanghera (8) and fellow Aussie Callum Henry (10*), his unbeaten 55 led to a 7-wicket victory with over 2 overs to spare.
