Hot weekend awaits the Club's senior teams

The club has a busy weekend of cricket ahead with the 1st XI having matches at Glenpark on both Saturday and Sunday and the Glenpark XI playing away in Glasgow on Saturday.

In the Western Premiership Two on Saturday, the 1st XI meet Glasgow Accies in round 11 of the 18 round league fixture list. The season has been blighted by poor weather and the team have only completed five matches so far with just two wins and have had six matches either cancelled or abandoned because of rain.

This Saturday is looking much more favourable regarding the weather and the team will be keen to make it a double over Accies, having won comfortably at New Anniesland in Glasgow by seven wickets in mid-May.

On that occasion, Accies batted first and set a challenging total of 197 all out. Highlight was the four wicket haul of Aussie amateur Will Jenkins who finished off the Accies batting line-up with a hat-trick, taking the last three wickets in consecutive balls.

And then with the team batting after the tea interval, it was over to the Club's second Aussie amateur Callum Henry to take the headlines. He batted throughout the innings scoring an undefeated 108 runs to take the team to a well deserved win. Henry's century included 13 boundaries and two sixes.

For this weekend, Jenkins is unavailable but Greenock will feel confident that the team has a sufficiently strong bowling attack to contain and bowl out Accies. The likely opening attack will be provided by pace bowlers Fahim Dinarkheil and Cammy Calder, and they will be backed up by a number of others in the side who can deliver wickets using a variety of other bowling options.

And in the batting line-up Henry will again be a key player. He has been in fine form for most of the season and added a second century against Helensburgh towards the end of June. His form has taken him to the top of the Premiership Two batting stats where he has scored 292 runs at an average of 97.33.

Accies have played just one more league match than Greenock, but also have won just two of these which came against East Kilbride on the opening day of the league season and against bottom side Helensburgh in May.

Since then, the New Anniesland side have been dogged by the poor weather, like all clubs in the west of Scotland, and played just two more league matches losing both to West of Scotland and most recently Irvine.

The 1st XI and Accies sit side by side in mid-table and each will be keen to gain the 25 points available for the winning team. Even at this stage in the league season, the points would more or less guarantee keeping the winning side clear of any relegation trouble as Helensburgh look increasingly isolated at the foot of the league table and a gap may soon develop between second bottom and a group of four or five others.

So Saturday's match will be one to watch, with both sides having plenty to play for during the afternoon. The selected side for the match shows one change from last weekend with Zabiullah Dilsoz replacing Dilpory.

The team will welcome Dunfermline & Carnegie to Glenpark on Sunday for the quarter-final match in the CS Challenge Cup.

To reach this stage of the competition, they defeated Kilmarnock in round two having won their first round tie against Dundee HSFP by the toss of a coin following three failed attempts to play the match due to wet weather.

Dunfermline & Carnegie easily overcame Milngavie in the first round and last Sunday, in the second round, defeated Motherwell to reach the quarter final stage. They are also a team in good league form. In the East of Scotland League Division Two, they are flying high at the top of the table having won eight and lost just once, so the 1st XI will have to be on form to progress through to the semi-final.

They have home advantage and will field a side which, if the players perform well, will have supporters looking forward to the team continuing its winning run in the national competition and another home tie at the semi-final stage.

With the weather set fair for both days over the weekend, there should be plenty of entertaining cricket on view at Glenpark for spectators to enjoy.

The Glenpark XI will hope to continue their fine league form when they travel to Glasgow on Saturday to take on Milngavie 2nd XI at Garscube Sports Complex. Unbeaten in the league throughout the first half of the season, the team is joint leader of the Western Championship Three league with Mearns Challengers. Captain Eddie Ahmad will lead a strong-looking team which will aim to build on the season's fine form and keep the unbeaten run going.

The Hillend XI have no game this weekend but on Wednesday they gained a second win out of three Midweek League matches played when they defeated BBC Scotland at Titwood, Glasgow. Batting first, Hillend scored 122 for 5 with Nikhil Kadyan 38 not out and Sudeep Chaudhary 26. BBC Scotland were then bowled out for 81 giving Hillend a comfortable win. Team captain Rakesh Kumar and Kurakulasuriya Leema were the two leading bowlers, each capturing three wickets.
