1st XI pull off exciting win at Stirling
Monday, June 1st, 2026

The 1st XI pullled off an exciting win at Stirling when they defeated Stirling County by 1 wicket after recovering from a difficult position midway through their innings. With rain forecast, Aryan Sanghera inserted Stirling when he won the toss. At 127 for 5 Stirling were in a precarious position but recovered well to reach 207 before being dismissed in the 47th over. The 1st XI's reply was punctuated by rain and DLS changed their target to 188 in 40 overs. Wickets fell regularly and at 109 for 7, victory seemed a long way away. However Adam McGuirk and Jack Matthews (Toby's brother) dug in and when Matthews fell, Greg McDougall kept an end up. McGuirk's dismissal at 176 for an excellent 64, which include 5 sixes, put Stirling back on top but McDougall and Dinarkheil played solidly and the latter hit the winning boundary with 11 balls remaining. Peter Hempsey's report reflects on a much-improved display from Aryan Sanghera's players.

The Glenpark XI also had to cope with a rain-affected match but were not as fortunate as the 1st XI. Their opponents, The Tryst, scored 135 in 31.3 overs with Rakesh Kumar taking 3 for 39 a total which was revised to 107 in 23 overs. Glenpark's reply was always struggling and came up 26 runs short, Mahmood Ahmadzai's unbeaten 30 the top score in their total of 81 for 7.

1st XI need to back on the winning trail against Stirling
Thursday, May 28th, 2026

The 1st XI, coming off two heavy defeats last weekend, travel to Stirling on Saturday to take on Stirling County at their New Williamfield ground. Both teams have experienced a very mixed season to date and this match would be seen as quite key for them. If nothing else, the 1st XI must make sure that they bat their full allocation of overs on Saturday, something they have signally failed to do so far when batting first. The game starts at the usual time of 12 noon and will be streamed live at this link.

The Glenpark XI are at home to The Tryst (Stenhousemuir's 2nd XI) on Saturday, seeking their first league win of the season. The availability issues that caused last Saturday's match to be forfeited, are not expected to occur this time around. The game will start at 12 noon and will be streamed live at this link.

Sunday see the first game for the Club's Senior XI when they take on Stenhousemuir in the new Senior League at Glenpark, the match starting at 1pm, 30 overs per side. It can also be seen live at this link.

Avid watchers of Greenock games can watch the 1st XI's Rowan Cup tie tonight (Thursday) at Prestwick at this link.

1st XI crash out of Challenge Cup
Monday, May 25th, 2026

The 1st XI relinquished their hold on the CS Challenge Cup when they were well beaten by Crescent-Dunecht at Brechin by 120 runs. The host team made the most of their allotted 40 overe, making 207 for 9 with most of their batsmen making double figures. There were 2 wickets apiece for Toby Matthews, Mubi Ahmadzai and Aryan Sanghera.

The 1st XI's reply never got off the ground and for the second time this weekend they failed to make three figures, being dismissed for 87. Toby Matthews top-scored with 24. Peter Hempsey's match report provides the details of what was another heavy defeat for the 1st XI.

1st XI no match for Uddingston
Monday, May 25th, 2026

The 1st XI had a day to forget has they were swatted aside by league leaders Uddingston, losing by 10 wickets. Adam McGuirk with 21 was the only batsman to reach double figures as the team failed to get to grips with Ross Lyons who took 5 for 7 in 8 overs. From a reasonable position of 45 for 2, they collapsed to 59 all out, at one point losing 5 wickets without a run being scored. Uddingston wasted little time in reaching their target, losing no wickets as they reached 60 in 12.3 overs. Peter Hempsey's report on the match makes for somewhat depressing reading.

The Glenpark XI had to unfortunately forfeit their game with Meikleriggs, due to an inability to raise a team. All in all, a Saturday that will not last long in the memory of Greenock supporters.

Dave Sharma off to Canada, Shailesh Prabhu to England
Thursday, May 21st, 2026

Congratulations to our very own Dave Sharma who has been chosen as a member of the 16-man Scotland Seniors Over 60s squad for the forthcoming Over 60s World Cup, to be held from 9th to 23rd August in Ontario, Canada. Everyone at the Club wishes Dave all the very best for the tournament.

Not to be undone, Shailesh Prabhu will play for the Scotland Over 50s side to play India at Leicester on 24th May and Oldham the next day. Good luck, Shailesh.

1st XI romp to victory at East Kilbride
Sunday, May 17th, 2026

The1st XI put their recent disappointing form behind them when they comprehensively defeated East Kilbride at Torrance House by 9 wickets. The home side won the toss and elected to bat first but that was a decision that they would regret. After a steady start, they collapsed to the bowling of Toby Matthews (5 for 8) and Cammy Calder (3 for 24) and were dismissed for just 68 in 18.1 overs. The 1st XI wasted no time in overtaking that total with NIkhil Kadyan, promoted to opener, making 44 not out off just 38 balls, only the wicket of Shailesh Prabhu being lost. The match lasted just 30 overs and one ball. Peter Hempsey's report makes for much happier reading this week.

The Glenpark XI showed much improved batting form when they entertained Woodhall East Kilbride at Glenpark. Ronnie Singh and Dave Sharma both scored 36 as Glenpark made 171 for 9 in their 40 overs. However, the visitors' batting proved to be too strong for the Glenpark bowling and they ran out winners by 4 wickets. Eddie Ahmad's team at least have something to build upon after this performance.

The Hillend XI's Sunday League match with Kelburne was a casualty of the day's wet weather and did not take place.

1st XI fall to another heavy defeat
Sunday, May 10th, 2026

It was more of the same for the 1st XI on Saturday when they fell to a second successive heavy defeat in the league, losing by 133 runs to Dumfries at Nunholm. Their opponents batted first and led by 99 from Munro Cubbon, they amassed 244 in their 50 overs, a good score but not unbeatable at that ground. There were two wickets apiece for Dinarkheil, Matthews and Pandher. The 1st XI's reply never really got off the ground and a mid-order collapse saw them fall to 56 for 7 before Chirag Pandher (36) and Ronnie Singh (12) brought a measure of respectability to the score in a partnership of 45 before the innings ended on 111. The really disappointing feature of the innings was that it lasted for just 28 overs. Disappointingly, Peter Hempsey's weekly report reads like a repeat of last week's match.

The Glenpark XI were also comprehensively beaten on Saturday by Nunholm. The visitors amassed an imposing 285 for 6 in their 40 overs with Rakesh Kumar the one bowler to shine, capturing 4 wickets. In reply, Glenpark never got going with the veteran David Thomson top-scoring with 20 out of a total of just 72, leaving Nunholm winners by 213 runs.

To cap a disappointing weekend, the Hillend XI were beaten by 3 wickets by Kelburne at Whitehaugh on Sunday in their first Sunday League Division One game of the season. The Club's two amateurs used the game to get some much needed confidence at the wicket, with Toby Matthews scoring 100 and Adam McGuirk retiring after reaching 52 as Hillend made 198 in their 40 overs. The handicap of playing with 9 men eventually told on Hillend as the Kelburne 8th wicket pair took them to victory with an unbeaten partnership of 56, reaching 199 for 7 in the 38th over.

Chastening start to league season for 1st XI
Tuesday, May 5th, 2026

The 1st XI's lack of match practice prior to the start of the league season came home to roost in no small way as they were completely outplayed by Langside at Albert Park, losing by 156 runs to the Glasgow Southsiders.

Skipper Aryan Sanghera won the toss and elected to bowl first and initially this decision looked to be a good one when Langside were reduced to 68 for 3. But a fourth wicket stand of 134 followed and then number 6 Asif bludgeoned an unbeaten 57 in just 26 balls as Langside reached 281 for 4 in their 50 overs.

In all honesty, the 1st XI batsmen never looked like reaching that total and they were indebted to 51 from Toby Matthews to get them to their final total of 125. Much work to do before next week's game.

Peter Hempsey's weekly report provides more details on what was a most disappointing start to the season.

April Glenpark Supporters Prize Draw - Result
Thursday, April 30th, 2026

The April monthly draw for the Glenpark Supporters Prize Draw (GSPD) was carried out on Sunday 26th April 2026 by Adam McGuirk, one of the Club's overseas amateurs. The four lucky winners were Ian Henley, Anne Terrey, Roddy Neill and Sean Linning while Greg McDougall was the fortunate recipient of the Spring jackpot prize (Adam should be OK for drinks for the next few weeks).

Congratulations to them all on their wins.

The next draw will take place on Saturday 30th May 2026 for the usual monthly prizes.

We are always looking for new members to join the draw, the receipts from which are used to improve the facilities of the Club for all members. If you wish to join, please contact Brian Papworth using the details to be found at the Contacts link.

Glenpark XI start season with a win
Sunday, April 26th, 2026

While the 1st XI were unfortunately idle on a sunny Saturday, the Glenpark XI did venture out on to the green sward at Gourock Park to take on Inverclyde in a pre-season friendly. Skipper Eddie Ahmad used the opportunity to give as much practice as possible to all his players. Usman Mansoor with 31, the skipper himself with 29 and Arun Nair with 20 were the leading run-scorers in Glenpark's total of 135. The wickets were spread around when Inverclyde batted and they were eventually 35 runs short of their target when the game ended.

Skipper Ahmad has kindly provided more details on the game in this brief report on the game.

A brief look-ahead to the new season
Sunday, April 5th, 2026

As we say farewell to Storm Dave, thoughts turn to the new season with the first game now less than two weeks away. There will be no cricket at Glenpark until the second week in May as we give the ground time to recover from the winter rains.

Aryan Sanghera and Eddie Ahmad again lead the 1st XI and Glenpark XI sides respectively while Rakesh Kumar takes the reins of the Hillend XI. Two young Australians, Adam McGuirk and Toby Matthews, will augment the 1st XI and will undoubtedly strengthen the team on the back of excellent seasons for their clubs back home.

If the weather plays ball, then there is a wealth of cricket to be played this summer and new players will be welcomed. Senior training takes place on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6.15pm.

The junior section has been revitalised and rebranded as the Greenock Titans and will play this year in coloured clothing. Training for the section will be held on Wednesday evenings from 6pm, starting on 22nd April and equipment will be supplied.

Lastly, after the sudden tragic passing of our groundsman Alan Boag, the ground will this year be looked after by ACGT Groundworks, a company formed by two former Stirling County players, under the supervision of Roger Hardie. Let us hope that the weather gods shine upon them as they go about their work.

March Glenpark Supporters Prize Draw - Result
Sunday, April 5th, 2026

The March monthly draw for the Glenpark Supporters Prize Draw (GSPD) was carried out on Saturday 28th March 2026. The four lucky winners were Lyn Lang, Rona Lochhead, Susan Hempsey and Tom Ward.

John (Barrel) McDougall
Wednesday, February 25th, 2026

The Club is sad to announce the passing of John (Barrel) McDougall at Ardgowan Hospice on 24th February. Barrel, as he was known to everyone, was a regular in the 2nd XI in the late 70s and early 80s and played a few games for the 1st XI in that time. He was a hard-hitting batsman, a good team-mate and great fun to be around. He will be sadly missed. Our condolences go to all his family and friends.
