Greenock Cricket Club runs a well-organised and popular Junior section for children, both boys and girls, from the age of 8 up to 18.

The youngest children, ie those between the ages of 8 and 10, start off with Kwik Cricket. This teaches boys and girls the rudiments of the game but the objective at the same time is to have fun. It is played with a softer, yellow ball as opposed to the hard, red ball used in proper cricket. Everyone gets a chance to bat and bowl, there is no way that just a few can monopolise the game. All of this makes it a great way to learn the fun of cricket.

The section fields three under-age teams in the Western District Junior Leagues. The Under 12s (softball) and Under 14s play their games on a Friday evening against other clubs in the Paisley, Glasgow and Ayrshire areas. The Under 16s  do the same but on a Monday evening.  The Club also fields teams in the Cricket Scotland national competitions.

Practice and coaching sessions for all age groups are all important and these take place on Wednesdays from 6.00pm to 7.30pm for children aged from 8 to 15. Under 16s and selected other juniors will also be able to attend the Senior training sessions which are held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.

The cost of Membership is £5, irrespective of age.

Anyone wishing to try the game or join the section should get in contact with Emily Norris, the Junior Convenor, at the number listed above.
