Overseas Amateur on his way

After it seemed that Greenock would not be fielding any overseas players this season, the Club has now revealed that they will have an Overseas Amateur.

22-year-old Courtney Kruger, from Hong Kong, is due to fly in to the country on Thursday 6 May, too late for the first SNCL game of the season against Clydesdale but available for the rest of the season.

Courtney, who was born in South Africa, has represented Hong Kong twice, in ODIs against Pakistan and India in 2008. He arrived in Hong Kong in 2000 from South Africa and has since captained the Hong Kong Under 15, 17 and 19 sides. He has also been the Vice Captain of the Hong Kong national team in the 2008 Asia Cup and the 2007 World Cricket League.

How did Courtney arrive at Greenock? He was recommended to get in touch with the club by Mark Ferguson, who kept wicket for the club in the mid 2000s and who is now living and working in Hong Kong.

A right-handed batsman and occasional bowler, Courtney is sure to add some much-needed stability to a team that will find this season to be a difficult one with the loss of so many top players.
