Scorecard

Greenock gained their first competitive win of the season on Thursday evening when they beat Renfrew by four runs in a tense finish in their West League Cup tie at Glenpark.

Batting first, Greenock scored 116 for the loss of 3 wickets from their allotted 18 overs. Openers Shailesh Prabhu and Chris Hempsey got the innings off to a good start putting 27 runs on the board before Hempsey was bowled by Adrees for 8. Prabhu departed shortly afterwards for 19 and for a few overs the run rate dropped while Adrees picked up his and Renfrew’s third wicket.

Greenock captain Ryan Begley and Overseas Amateur, Craig Schlebusch, then began what was to be the match winning partnership as the pair added 78 runs in the final 9 overs of the innings. Begley was unbeaten on 37 and Schlebusch also unbeaten on 38 on his debut for the club.

Renfrew fought hard in their innings to keep up with the required run rate of approx 6.5 runs per over and had opener A. Said to thank for holding things together. He scored 48 before WDCU umpire Sean Els adjudged him to be LBW to a delivery from Mark Robertson when he was on 48. Only one other player made double figures as the Renfrew side just failed to reach the target set by Greenock.

Criag Schlebusch showed that he is a fine all rounder with an excellent bowling and fielding display while top honours went to Mark Robertson with 3 for 27. Walid Jamal took one 17 from five overs and there were two run outs.
