Alex Baum in the runs in Sri Lanka

Alex Baum has made an impressive start to the Scotland Under 19s two week cricket tour to Sri Lanka. In the opening match on Sunday, in the capital city Colombo against a Sri Lanka Cricket Board XI, Baum was Scotland’s second top scorer with 44 runs, but unfortunately his innings, and that of team captain Ross McLean of Arbroath CC (45), was not supported by others in the side and the team was all out for 183 chasing the Sri Lanka total of 237 for 9.

In the second match of the tour on Monday against Asoka Vidyalaya, once again in Colombo, the team gave a much better account of themselves and posted a formidable 319 for 6 with Alex Baum once again contributing well with 28 runs as the later order capitalised on a superb hundred from West of Scotland's Andrew Umeed. The Asoka Vidyalayan side came up well short, managing just 146 all out to give the Scots a very convincing 173 run win.

The tour continues until 4 April.
