Girls Cricket takes off at Greenock

Greenock Cricket Club is leading the way with Girls’ Cricket in the west of Scotland. In season 2013, the Glenpark club was the only West District side to enter a girls’ team in national competition and the sport is continuing to attract enthusiasm from girls in the Inverclyde area as the 2014 season gets under way.

At the beginning of May, Kari Carswell, (Women's Cricket Manager, Cricket Scotland) and her international teammate, Samantha Haggo, came along to Glenpark and provided the Greenock girls with a training session consisting of batting drills and fielding games. Despite inclement weather, a very enjoyable improvised coaching session was held in the Glenpark club’s Squash Court and the girls had great fun.

Greenock Cricket Club’s ‘Girls’section’ is thriving and is keen to increase numbers even further and any girl who wishes to try cricket should contact Kevin Flack, the Club’s Junior Convenor on 07803 878898.

Training sessions are held every Wednesday at Glenpark between 6pm and 7.30pm to which all newcomers will be made very welcome. All equipment needed to play cricket at the training sessions is provided by the Club.
