Scottish Cup
Sunday 7th May 2023
Greenock 1st XI | 92 | S Khanusiya 3 for 8, S Pillay 3 for 11 |
Stewart's Melville | 93 for 1 | AL Appleton 51* |
The 1st XI's poor form in recent years in the Scottish Cup continued on Sunday afternoon at Glenpark. Not since 2017 have they gone past the first round and on the last three occasions when the cup competition has occurred, it has been an Edinburgh club which has barred the Glenparkers from any further progress.
Drawn against a team from the capital city in the first round for the fourth time in a row, Stewart's Melville, the team maintained this recent run of failures in a match at Glenpark that was largely a very one-sided affair.
The team got off to the worst possible start by losing two very early wickets and although there was a brief recovery which took the total to 81 for the loss of 4 wickets, an all too familiar collapse then saw the Glenparkers bowled out for just 92.
Only Lukas Fischer-Keogh with 23 and professional Rahul Dalal with 27 made it into double figures.
In reply, Stewart's Melville made short work of reaching and overtaking the team's lowly total, scoring 93 for the loss of just one wicket after a mere 15.3 overs.
